India’s Biggest Blood Donation Initiative

Blood cannot be manufactured in factories. It can only come from generous donors. According to WHO data, India faces a shortage of 3 million blood units per year. This shortage can easily be met if only an additional 2% of India’s youth donates blood. To meet this scarcity in the larger interest of the cause of society ‘Samruddha Jeevan Foundation’ organizes nationwide mega blood donation drive every year.

This year the blood donation drive is being organized on 26th September at 350 locations in almost all the important cities of 21 states from dawn to dusk by ‘Samruddha Jeevan Foundation’ with Live India and Mi-Marathi news channels and Prajatantra Live news Paper as media partners.

The man behind this campaign is Samruddha Jeevan CMD, Dr. Mahesh Motewar who has appealed every citizen of India to join the blood donation drive and give someone the gift of life. Blood donation becomes more important as blood cannot be manufactured and it can only come from generous donors. “We have a taken a small step, but can make a big change if youth in India come forward and donate blood,” said Mahesh Motewar. “Donating blood is a simple thing to do, but it can make a big difference in the lives of others,” Dr. Motewar observes.

This year the blood donation drive is already making news as renowned public figures from various spheres are appealing people at large to be a part of Sammrudha jeevan Foundation drive on 26 September. Political leaders, Bollywood celebrities and social activists from different parts of India have lent their extended support to this noble cause, making the organizers more enthusiastic towards the blood donation drive. The VVIPs and celebrities who are attending the blood donation camps through the nation are dozens of union cabinet ministers, MoS, Political leaders , sports and Bollywood celebrities including Ram Vilas Paswan, Gen. V.K. Singh , Jual Oram, Kirti Azad, M. A. Naqvi, Vinay Katiar, Shilpa Shetty, Ravi Kishen to name a few.

The largest blood donation initiative of Samruddha Jeevan Foundation has been supported by Chief Ministers of 21 states, Ministry of Health, Govt. of India, Red Cross Society, Delhi Medical Association and other medical associations of state Governments.

Earlier in 2010 when the event was thought of, it was a simple blood donation camp. In the year within 18 states in the country the drive witnessed 27,730 donors which was recognized by the “India book of Records” and attracted souvenir. In 2012 the event was carried out in 19 states. A special anthem was produced for this event which has been hummed ever since the event. The year saw camps organized in 413 cities at 2000 places receiving huge response from entire country. Similarly the blood donation drive in the year 2013 had its remarkable success.
