HC issues notice to Bar Council in Law Age limit Writ

The Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench today issued notice to Bar Council of India as regards the petition challenging the fixing of upper age limit for law entrance. The Bench of Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice Mahendra Dayal also directed the petitioner IPS officer Amitabh Thakur to produce a certified copy of the petition filed in Andhra Pradesh High Court and its order.

BCI has fixed 20 years as the upper age limit for 5 years and 30 years as upper age limit for 3 years L Lb courses through Clause 28 of Schedule III to Legal Education Rules, 2008. Lucknow University and its affiliated colleges have accordingly fixed the upper age limits for Law entrance.

AP High Court in Private Law Colleges, Hyderabad vs the Bar Council of India and others (Writ Petition No 6691/2009) has already suspended the operation of this clause 28.

Based on the above order, Thakur challenged before this fixation of upper age limit in Lucknow University.
