Scribe beaten for news about Minister’s kin, FIR refused

Media person Sanjeev Kumar Singh from Sikandarpur, Ballia is paying heavy price for publishing news related with Cabinet Minister Ram Govind Chaudhary’s cousin brother Ram Bachan Yadav and his driver Dharmendra.

Sanjeev had written news about the one-sided police action in Dharmendra’s beating by people in Sikandarpur for alleged eve-teasing on Durga Puja day. As a consequence Sanjeev was abused and beaten at around 07.30 PM on 08 October by Dharmendra, Chotak Singh and others.

Sanjeev gave a written complaint to SO Sikandarpur who refused to acknowledge it as being related to the Minister’s relatives. He neither sent any policeman on the spot, nor got Sanjeev’s mandatory medical examination done.

Sanjeev had to get his medical done at CHC, Sikandarpur on his own where three injuries including contusion on face and swelling on head were recorded. He also contacted SP Ballia Rajubabu Singh who refused to interfere.

Now Sanjeev has contacted IPS Amitabh Thakur and social activist Nutan Thakur who have written to DGP A L Banerjee to get the FIR registered. They have said that only recently the DGP got many SOs suspended for non-registration of Test FIRs, hence definite strong action needs to be taken for non-registration of FIR given by an injured media-person. They have also written to Press Council Chairman Markandey Katju to take up the matter of beating of a journalist for his writing.
